Kitty McGowan, President
Kitty McGowan is the president of NautiCom Communications, Inc. a boutique public relations and marketing company focusing on the unique needs of the association management and the marine industries.
After graduating from Florida State University with a B.S. in Public Relations and Marketing and working in the health care industry, Kitty started her career in the yachting industry where she served as a chef aboard such high profile yachts as M/Y Octopussy, Thunderball and Moonraker. In 1992, she relocated stateside and took an executive position with the Marine Industries Association of South Florida (MIASF) – owners of the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. While there, she grew the non-profit trade organization into the largest regional marine trade association in the country. It was in that position where she developed the foundation for her own company, NautiCom Communications in 1999.
In 2010, Kitty was tapped to take over the reins of a fledgling national marine trade association, the U.S. Superyacht Association. During that time, she grew the association from a small regionally-based organization to a powerful international force in the industry! Over the years, she has more than tripled the membership, developed a national advocacy platform that helped create the first large-yacht flag registry and worked with the U.S. Coast Guard and CBP to ease U.S. entry for yacht crew. She expanded the association’s focus to develop a national and international presence by creating high profile industry Pavilions at the Fort Lauderdale International and Palm Beach Boat Shows, the Monaco Yacht Show and the world’s largest trade industry show, METSTRADE in Amsterdam.
For more than 35 years, Kitty has been a proven leader in all aspects of community support, promoting tourism, charitable organizations and the boating industry – including running local and international fishing tournaments to yachting events, non-profits organizations and everything in between.
As the president of NautiCom Communications, Kitty created a company that quickly established itself as an advocate in the marine industry as well as an association management organization. In addition to her work with Nauticom, Kitty is a proud graduate of Leadership Broward’s Class of 25, served three terms on Fort Lauderdale’s Marine Advisory Board, several terms on Broward County’s Convention and Visitors Bureau Marketing Advisory Committee for and two terms as a board member for the Marine Industries Association of South Florida. She was appointed for two terms on the South Atlantic Fisheries Management Council by the Florida’s Governor to protect the recreational fishing industry and has served for decades on the board of the largest one-day event in Florida – the Seminole Hard Rock Winterfest Boat Parade where she has been the “voice of the parade” to more than a million people! She was a member of multiple Super Bowl Host Committees, raised tens of thousands of dollars as a board member for Pinion—a fundraising organization for Special Olympics of Broward County, millions for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and most recently, she served as the MC and auctioneer, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for the inaugural Caymus Wine Event to benefit the Dwight Stephenson and Cystic Fibrosis Foundations. She has most recently joined the board of directors of the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival.
Her most treasured experiences in her career were the creation of the Take a Hero Fishing event 15 years ago to support Broward Navy Days and the U.S. Military and most notably, the creation of a ground-swell program dubbed the Inspire Initiative, dedicated to celebrating and uplifting women worldwide that has taken legs and become an international phenomenon.
She currently lives in Fort Lauderdale, Florida—the Yachting Capital of the World with her husband, Stephen Donahue and their two rescue dogs and cat.
